Please, if you don't ever follow a link from me, follow that one. Read what he posted. Follow the link to the project that he is talking about. It's important, folks. Teenage suicide is a real problem. If we as adults don't talk about it to our youth, it's going to get worse.
I can't explain it any better than Danger Boy did. I just can't do it justice (partially because I'm really not awake yet and I'm doing this without the aid of caffeine) so just go and read Surviving the Life.
Do it. Now. And then come back here and read the rest of my caffeineless rambing.
Now, for the more lighthearted randomness...
Yesterday, JR over at Sex and the Single Dad did a post about his upcoming road trip and included a music video from a band that I had heard of, but never heard - The Dropkick Murphys - and I loved it! And it got me to thinking....(uh oh) While I *love* music and listen to it constantly, my CD collection is....sparse, to say the least. I need more. With The Mother of All Road Trips: 2011 Edition quickly approaching, I'm asking you for suggestions.
This is partially for fun, and partially because I can't handle another 3000 mile road trip where I am forced to listen to Hannah Montana and High School Musical CDs. I. Just. Can't. Do. It.
Guidelines:
~ Don't even suggest anything that even vaguely resembles rap. Seriously.
How's that for a list of guidelines?
Honestly, I listen to anything. Except rap. I love the 80's hair bands. I love country. I haven't listened to much new stuff lately but I've heard some really good stuff. I'm open to suggestions. Just to give you an idea of my randomness, my cassette collection (shut up, and yes, I still have it) includes everything from Garth Brooks to Depeche Mode to Whitesnake to Information Society to The Beatles to Metallica to Daryl Braithwaite to Journey to Bon Jovi to Alphaville and beyond.
So make your suggestions. Just no rap.
And for the final bit of randomness, I'm a guest poster today over at My Husband Ate All My Ice Cream. If you've been stalking, er, following me for any period of time, you've already seen the post - but be sure to check out her blog. She's funny and sarcastic and she has really really interesting things to say. So go, read, follow, and be amused. Because I said so, that's why.
I have DKM in my CD changer right now. That and Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys.
ReplyDeleteNow I need to find me some George Strait...
Do you watch Glee? They have a couple of CD's out and they sing everything from new to old and everything in between and show tunes. Will put on my thinking cap...
ReplyDeleteBethinca
I say go with some of the golden oldies on your road trip I love Journey, Foreigner and of course Foghat's "slow ride"..... Keith Urban and Tim McGraw.
ReplyDeleteBTW I Did check out "Surviving the Life" thumbs up!
GIVE ME SOME GARTH AND BON JOVI. I GET CHILLS JUST THINKING OF THOSE TWO. YUMMY. I SAY BUY THE KIDS THEIR OWN I PODS AND YOU LISTEN TO WHAT YOU WANT. IT'S A LONG TRIP.I FEEL FOR YOU.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Train, pink, Adele... anything from those 3 make me happy. :)
ReplyDeleteDID YOU READ ABOUT USIND CHARCOAL FOR THE STINK I WROTE YOU?
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Good suggestions! Keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteGranny - I did read that. I also put in a call to the landlord today to see if he can do something about it. Also - I have a towel that Jon Bon Jovi wiped his face off with during a concert in Hershey Stadium in the summer of either '86 or '87. And no, I still have not washed it! ;) And I was at the Garth Brooks/Billy Joel concert in Central Park in August 1997. Such awesome times back then!
Great blog!
ReplyDeleteOH man...don't know if I have any suggestions seeing that Foreigner and Journey sound like the "new kids" to me!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the 60's BUT how about some Taylor Swift?? Pink I certainly agree on and Glee sounds fab! (good call Beth) also can't lose with Geo Strait..just downloaded "the chair" yesterday in fact.
OH...and don't forget "the wheels on the bus" *ducking as you throw a shoe at me*!! JK
Is the craft show this next weekend??
LOL @ mare! Alex already took care of the shoe throwing for today - one of his apparently hit the ceiling fan (hello?) and was launched to a semi-permanent spot behind the TV. He can live without that shoe for a while.
ReplyDeleteI saw George Strait and Jo Dee Messina in OKC a few years back - that was wonderful!
And yep, the show is on Saturday. I really need to start getting ready for that at some point this week....
I have some music for you, go here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/oney It is country gospel, written and sung by my hubby's uncle!! My hubby sings these songs too and I love when he does!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I will definitely do that!! I love when I "know" (or know of) the artist! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBy the time you get ready to leave, Tim (http://www.augustskiesmusic) might have his mini-sampler out and ready to go.... I could send you one of those. Otherwise, check out The Civil Wars, Manchester ORchestra, The Used, Evanescence, Christina Perri, Ray Lamontagne, Glen Hansard, Coldplay, Freelance Whales, The Dearhunter (Yes, D E A R... not D E E R), and ummm.... I'm sure I'll think of more later.
ReplyDeleteAwesome....I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a friend recently move from AZ to MI and I made her a road-trip collection...9 CDs worth. It was all OUR music Amy, and she LOVED it. Funny thing is, for days after she left, even with 9 CDs worth of stuff, I kept thinking of tunes I should have put on there! - Blake
ReplyDeleteBlake, I love those mixes - I still have some on cassette (I know, I know...) and I still love them because of what they meant! I figure I have just under a month to get all of our music together (along with everything else) so I should be able to have a pretty good selection by then.....I hope.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm not judging. I still have CASES of cassette tapes and one of the few who still has a dual-cassette tape player as part of their home entertainment system!
