Doing it again...but with the girls this time

Remember back on New Year's Eve when I listed some goals? One of those goals was to try to do one race per month all year long.

I did the Frosty 5K on New Year's Day. I did the (whatever it was called) 5 mile one in February. And now it's March.

Uh oh.

I just registered myself and the girls to do a 5K on St. Patrick's Day. I had mentioned it to them a couple of weeks back since it happens to fall on a weekend that I have all of the kids, and they were totally into the idea. The Dude has already graciously agreed to keep track of the boys while us girls are out running (walking/jogging in my case)...

Of course, with Sarah being the sprinter that she is, she'll do the whole thing at a dead run and not even break a sweat. Emily will be a little slower but will still have fun with it.

And then there will be me, dragging up the rear.

I did the one on New Year's Day in 42:29, and I believe that my best time in a 5K so far is 41:43. I would like to beat that, but I've been lazy and haven't been training. So for the next 10 days, that's going to be my focus - and maybe that will also help to pull me out of this slump that I've been in for the past few days.

Although I do have to say that I did get a ton of laundry done today, so I'm not feeling like so much of a lump anymore....

Tomorrow, I get started training for real. I'm planning on going out while Daniel is at school in the morning, although it might be interesting with the brutal winds that we've been having the past few days. Hopefully by the time I get done, I'll still be able to walk.

Probably should take some ibuprofen tonight as a preemptive strike.

  3. I saw your blog on the domestic goddess' list and came over to read. I TOO am doing a race a month (trying). I only do 5K's. I am happy to say that my best time is 30:39....all I ever wanted was to get under 31:00 and now I have so I am slacking. I can pretty consistantly run/jog one in under 35:00. I did a new years one, a valentines one and I am also doing one on St Patricks. The upcoming one has free beer and eggs and the end so I am pretty stoked! (I live in middle TN so its already pretty warm now, though watch - now we will have a freak snow storm that day...) Anyways - the best of luck to you - you're doing a great thing for yourself! :) Devan

    1. Thanks for coming by! I really appreciate it!

Those are awesome times - I'm much slower than that, but at least I'm getting out there and doing something. Of course, I went out yesterday and totally faceplanted after catching my foot on a tree root, so I'm paying dearly for that today. The running has been huge for me, after being told by so many people that I couldn't do it, and then having a total hip replacement a few years ago. I just need to get out more regularly and do it!

      :)
