Pre-Vacation Cleaning - boys are gross

Today's mission was to tackle the boys' room. Let me tell you, having 3 boys in one room can lead to some serious disasters. Stuff not getting put away is one thing - finding food that was snuck into their room and left to ferment is something totally different. I seriously found a pancake in there. A pancake. Really?

But, after a couple of hours and multiple loads of laundry, it was finally done. The last little bit of laundry is drying and will be put away later tonight, if I can stay awake long enough to do it.

I am so ready to get this show on the road.

Two weeks from tomorrow......

  1. Dude.... that is NOT messy. Somedays, I can't even see the kids' floor....lol.

  2. Trust me, that was nothing. And there's a reason why they don't have any toys in their room - 99% of them got taken away from them because of their ability to destroy their room in mere minutes.

  3. You are a powerhouse. That's some fast cleaning. I can barely get suitcases and stuff packed. I admit it would be awesome to come home to a clean house after vacation.

Do confiscated toys ever get returned? Or do the stay in Toy jail?

  4. Oh man. I love your BEFORE AND AFTER shots!!!!

I completely understand the need to get things 100% neat before leaving on vacation. I'm starting to do it now, since my vacation is 2 weeks away as well...
(SIDE NOTE: Are we going on vacation together? So weird that we're taking it at the same time!)
I also completely empathize with your comment of taking away the toys because of the mess it makes.... SECONDS AFTER I CLEAN.

    YAY for BINGE CLEANING! rofl

  5. Kar - not all of the confiscated toys were truly confiscated. Some of them were just packed away to make room for new toys, and then we occasionally pack the other stuff away and bring out the old stuff just to shake things up a bit. However, the stuff that is truly confiscated (for bickering over it, using it as a weapon, or being generally annoying with it) generally does not get returned - or only after some major bargaining ("clean your room by yourself, do your laundry, and don't say a word, and you can have Buzz Lightyear back" sort of stuff).

Kat - we're leaving on July 21 and should be back around August 3ish. When are you going?

I haven't decided what I'm going to tackle yet today, but I have ideas.

  6. Nice job!

A pancake? That scares me! I knew I was in for surprises being the mom of a boy...but I didn't quite know just how many surprises there would be.

  7. Yeah, we're a strange lot. When we eat pancakes, we usually don't even mess with plates. The kids grab them almost straight off of the griddle and just eat them with their bare hands, sort of like big cookies. No butter, no syrup, nothing. So pancakes often appear in odd places, but I have to say that this is the first time that I've found one under the bed.

  8. I found dried up boogers on the wall behind the bed when we moved. It made me gag.

Man, I have this "thing" about noses and boogers. You have just succeeded in totally grossing me out for as long as it takes me to get that image out of my head.

  11. Oh Mare! I'm only going nuts cleaning because my nerves are so shot right now (read the blog I just posted tonight). Trust me, I would not be doing this otherwise!

But it does feel good to be getting stuff done.

Are you going to post pictures of your new place?

girls are gross too... while "helping" my daughter clean her room the other day, I picked up her purse (she's nine- so it holds her DSi and pencil crayons.) I peeked inside and found a petrified McDonald's cheeseburger in it. Not sure why it was in there........
