I took Jared and dropped him off at a swimming party and then the other 4 kids and I went to WalMart for a bit to pick up a few things. While we were there, I heard thunder and then could hear the rain hitting the roof of the store.
Sure enough, when we were checking out, I could see that it was pitch black outside and it was raining. A lot. So I left the kids inside the entrance to the store and sprinted across the parking lot to get the van. I admit - the wind was pretty brutal and I was soaked by the time I got to the van, which was only 4 spaces down the row.
Sarah shot this video as we were leaving WalMart.
And here are a few pictures that we took during the drive home and after we got back - the whole stormpocolypse lasted less than 30 minutes.
At last count there were about 2800 people here in Harvey County without power and there were some lines down. Looked like it was mostly on the south side of town as we were coming back, but everything on this end looks good, and the radar now looks clear.
So much for the stormpocolypse. Again.
SARAH, GOOD JOB. YOU GUYS ARE BRAVE TO BE OUT IN A STORM LIKE THAT ONE. WHEN WE LIVED IN OKLAHOMA CITY YEARS AGO I DIDN'T MOVE UNTIL THE STORMS WERE OVER. I JUST KNEW A TORNADO WAS GOING TO BLOW US AWAY.

I really didn't think that it was going to do anything, Granny. They always predict these horrible storms and they never really happen. So I was surprised when this one hit. Still, it was nowhere near as bad as what they were saying. I'll get the yard cleaned up tomorrow and it'll be like it never happened! LOL
ReplyDeleteThe sky looks really pretty wicked in that one pic....but VERY pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of your storm. I would pay for some thunder. Sorry about your strawberry pots, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post.
It was incredible. I have to say that I don't remember ever seeing it rain that hard around here - or maybe it's just been so long that it's been blocked out. As brutally dry as it's been here this summer, I bet that the ground has already sucked up all the water and it's still bone-dry out there.
ReplyDeleteLuckily(?) the pots didn't have any plants in them, but they were still full of dirt. And for the wind to pick them up and chuck them off of the porch....wonder how hard that gust was?
Love the pic of the said and done storm.. almost looks like fire!!
ReplyDeleteAmanda, it was almost surreal to see it in person - the picture just doesn't even begin to do it justice!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the orange sky. It almost looks like a jack-o-lantern.
ReplyDeleteHaha! You're right - it does! :)
