Like a boss

I made a vow to myself yesterday that I was going to at least get my desk cleaned off today. I intended to do it first thing, but I kept getting distracted (imagine that).

On the plus side, one of those distractions was actually forcing myself to get outside and go for a walk.

It was cold. And windy. And muddy. But I did it. I only did about 2.5 miles, but I even managed to jog quite a bit of it, so progress is progress at this point, and it's another step toward my goal of not only doing the half-marathon but also getting healthier in general.

And I actually feel pretty good for getting out there and doing it. We'll just see if that continues through until morning.

After I got back home from that, The Dude and I went and grabbed a quick bite to eat and then ran some errands before he had to go to work. By then it was time for me to pick up the boys and then do supper and then go to Scouts and continue working on laundry and everything else. Finally, around the time that the boys went to bed, I started working on cleaning off my desk. I actually did more than I planned on doing, and cleaned off the top of the filing cabinet - which has always been a catch-all - and went through quite a bit of paperwork as well.

So all in all - while it wasn't a fun and exciting day - it was a productive day. I needed a day like this to actually help get me on the right track and maybe start getting some stuff accomplished around here. For real.

Tomorrow's plan? Other than the usual stuff, I'm going to do a few more miles, help The Dude change the oil in my van, scrub the bathroom, and maybe even mop some floors. And sew. I'm going to sew.

The next project

OK, I know that it's way too early for me to go into pre-vacation cleaning stress mode, but I am about fed up with my desk area.

Realistically, I know that it's nowhere near as bad as it has been in the past. And on the surface, although it's cluttered, it doesn't look that bad.

However, as I've been working on paperworky projects over the past few days, this desk has gone beyond irritating me. I mean seriously, it should not take as much effort as it did to open up the top filing cabinet drawer, pull out the file that should contain the information that I needed, record it on the forms, and replace the file. It should be easy.

But, it wasn't. It was a nightmare. I mean, I found everything that I need, but not without totally pissing myself off at the lack of organization. And the thing is, that it was all totally organized not all that long ago!

So, my project over the next few days.....is to go through EVERYTHING on/in my desk and on/in the filing cabinet. Truth be told, the filing cabinet scares the crap out of me. I just glanced in the drawers - the top is jammed full of papers. The second one has some patterns, wood putty(?), an antique camera, and various other junk. The third one is mostly empty except for some crap. I have no idea what's in the fourth one because the shredder is in front of it, and I'm feeling lazy.

So hopefully, in the next few days, everything will be nice and neat and organized and alphabetized (ha - not really) and I'll be able to find what I need when I need it. If I disappear, you'll know that I got lost. Or something fell on my head. Or I bled to death from a paper cut.

I figure that if I can't control everything that happens in my life, maybe I can control the mess that is my desk. It's worth a shot, right?

Restlessness

Today has been another one of those days - I know that realistically, I should still be laying low and not running around like a lunatic even though I feel a little bit better. But I am so restless right now that I feel like I could crawl out of my skin. Actually I've been kind of feeling like that all day, so I decided to use the energy for good and clean up the kitchen. And I bleached just about anything that could be bleached, in the hopes of killing all of the cooties that are taking us out one by one...

I am not even going to post the pictures of what it looked like before, but suffice it to say that it was nasty.

Then the energy was transferred to finish cleaning up around my desk.

Of course, with this being Saturday, the day started out with basketball. Both of the girls were supposed to have games, but the team that Sarah was supposed to play against forfeited because they didn't have enough players - so that cut the chaos of the morning down considerably.

Emily's team really hustled today - they were definitely working together as a team. It is so neat to see how far they've progressed this season.

And although you can't tell from this picture....I snapped this in the instant before Emily shot and made her first basket! She's right there, in front of #14. It was a beautiful shot!

The final score was pretty sweet - for us.

So for the rest of the night tonight, I think I'm going to work on doing my nails and getting them into shape for the wedding that we're going to next weekend. I really wish that I wasn't such a nail biter, but I have been for all of my life, and the only way to stop it is for me to wear fake nails. Going to a salon and getting them done is expensive (not to mention next to impossible to schedule) so I got the stuff and I just do them myself. They don't look perfect, but they get me by, and they look better than the chewed-off nubs that I'm currently sporting.

Tomorrow, I think we're going to skip church - the boys are still hacking and coughing something fierce and I don't want to spread their cooties to the other kids, so we'll just stay home. I'm going to start tearing into the girls' room and get it thoroughly cleaned - and they may or may not be happy by the time they get back on Wednesday. I'm just tired of the mess, and if it means that I have to get in there and start packing crap away so that I can walk through without fearing for my life, then that's what I'm going to do. And they'll get over it.
